"My firm has a false slab ceiling — can I install your luminaire?" Yes, and this is even the most common case in dental practice. This is how the installation is done according to your type of ceiling, what the electrician does, and the pitfalls to avoid before ordering.
Identify your ceiling in 30 seconds
- Technical ceiling (60×60 straps) : apparent metal frame with removable slabs — the standard of professional premises and most practices
- Full plaster board ceiling (placo): continuous surface, with a vacuum (plenum) above
- Concrete ceiling : unwrought or painted slab, without technical vacuum
Everyone is working — only the method of fixing changes.
Case 1 — 60×60 slab technical ceiling: the simplest
Idea received to be corrected: one does not suspend Never a luminaire at the frame of the false ceiling itself. The metal frame supports light slabs, not equipment.
The correct method:
- The fixation crosses the false ceiling and goes to get the concrete slab (or frame) above the plenum: threaded rods or suspension cables anchored in the carrier support
- The slabs are cut or deposited at the crossing points — strictly invisible once the luminaire has been installed
- Wiring circulates in the plenum : power supply from the table, and additional connections (screen, control) without any bleeding
- The plenum generally offers the necessary place for platinums and power supplies
Not known benefit: the technical ceiling is the best case for a luminaire with built-in screen — all connections pass through the plenum, without visible work.
Case 2 — Placo ceiling: anticipating reinforcements
- The fixation will search the carrier structure above the placo (reinforced furnaces, dedicated lifts or concrete slab depending on configuration)
- The cables are passed through the vacuum above the plate — some localized openings, plugged into the installation
- Under renovation, predict the intervention of the plaquist if reinforcements should be added : this is the point to anticipate the most upstream
Case 3 — Concrete ceiling: the most direct
- Fitted by ankles directly into the slab — the strongest anchor
- Cables are routed by channel, bleed (under construction) or integrated into the luminaire according to the models
- A ceiling lamp with a projection EVO Slim is particularly well suited to this support
Who's posein'?
Two options, to choose:
- Your local electrician — each luminaire EVO-LIGHT comes with a detailed assembly documentation; the installation falls within the standard skills of a professional electrician
- Our optional installation — carried out by our qualified partners, particularly relevant for models with screens or multi-room projects
Check-list before ordering
- Type of ceiling identified (technical / placo / concrete)
- Measured ceiling height — it determines suspension or projection (see which luminaire according to the surface)
- Position of the wheelchair stopped (lighting centered on the work area)
- Existing localized electric arrival — or to create, to encrypt with electrician
- In condominium or rented premises: check what the lease allows on the works side
Traps to avoid
- Suspend the frame of the false ceiling - Never. The fastening always goes to the carrier holder.
- Order before checking the plenum — a crowded plenum (lim gains, cable paths) can move the fixing points: a photo is enough to check it with us
- Forget the lighting command — consider the location of switches/variators in the electrical plane, especially in the renovation phase
- Place the luminaire before fixing the seat — the move of the chair after the blow ruines the centering
In summary
Regardless of your ceiling — technical, placo or concrete — the installation of a care room luminaire is a controlled intervention: fastening to the carrier, wiring in the plenum or in a chute, and a half-day to a working day for an electrician according to the configuration. The real success factor is not the laying itself, but the preparation: the ceiling identified, the height measured, the chair positioned. Send us this three information and a photo via our form : we validate the feasibility before any order.
